Travel Report: From Dachau to Bologna in 5 Days

I bought a new touring bike and after some shorter trips I decided to plan a multi-day trip to Italy, across the Alps, starting from my home-town Dachau.

Day 1: For the second time this year, I’ve ridden this route into the Inn Valley.

But once you descend towards Jenbach, you know you won’t be taking the same way back to Munich ⛰️🎢

Day 2: The climb up to the Brenner Pass was tough — but in South Tyrol, you're rewarded with a beautiful bike path that follows an abandoned railway line. I probably could have ridden further today, but this way I can rest up a bit for the days ahead.

Day 3: The route kept descending all the way to Bolzano and then on to Trento. Unfortunately, I crashed in a curve while braking. Luckily, thanks to my long clothing, I didn’t scrape myself up too badly — and the bike is okay too. 🤕🚲

But after a long day, I still made it to my destination in one piece.

Day 4: Apart from one steep climb, today’s ride was pretty relaxed. I followed the Adige Valley all the way to Verona. The vegetation has completely changed — it almost feels like a little summer vacation in spring 🇮🇹

Day 5: Today’s ride went from Verona to Bologna along the EuroVelo 7 — at times running right next to the railway line, it really felt like a bicycle highway. Today was the last day of this little trip. Farewell for now, Italy — it was easier than I thought to get here by bike, and I’d love to ride all the way to the south someday.

I really want to come back Italy :) Those were a few nice days.
